New introduction

Hi. G'day. Waddup? I'm Oberon, sometimes referred to as Papa Owlet, sometimes called other names which I shall not utter here. I am married with three amazing daughters; my owlets. They are lots of fun and constantly inspire me to be a better parent and a better person generally. I work in conservation - I'm like a quasi scientist. This means I often address scientific problems in a social context with limited resources. Hmm, that doesn't make much sense so I might try to explain further some other time. Between family and work I do other stuff - usually during snippets of time only. These things include training in wing chun Kung Fu, songwriting on my gee-tar, and making YouTube videos. I spend too much time on my i-devices but hey, I'm often tired so that's what happens! I haven't got a grand vision for this blog (yet) but there are a few neurons that are interested in hooking up for a brain meeting sometime soon!

What draws us to certain styles of music?

I like folk music. Now I know that is not very specific is it? I should really explain what I mean, shouldn't I? Well, I like the kind of folk music that helps my mind to fly away, to think of nature - the kind of folk that guides me along a meandering stream or over a misty mountain, the kind that makes me feel like I'm snuggled up in a soft blanket in the coziest womb of a lounge-room in front of an open fire. The kind of folk music where each plucked note send meaning down my spine, in a way that lets me understand that lost love, that big dream, that burning tragedy, that gut-wrenching yearning for the world to become all the good things it once was. The kind of folk music that is as good as rain on a tin roof, or picnics on the softest lawn, or the first day of a long holiday. It is good sometimes to question why we like the music we do. So why do you like certain kinds of music? Where does it send you?
